Our point of difference

While we have a vision and mission, we feel it's important you know about what  makes us different to other peak bodies, associations, networks, and institutions.

01.

We recognise community development is a citizen and professional practice. Not either/or.

02.

The Initiative holds to both honouring traditions of community development rooted in historical and place-based practices supported by scholarly work, and new innovations, always reaching for ‘community development yet-to-come’.

03.

We will support the development of community development (CD) practice across all sectors (that is, not only within the social/human services sectors).

04.

Our vision is not only for more CD workers, people employed in CD occupations, but that more practitioners and citizens in many fields (for example, environmental, energy transitions, corporate, social) understand and use community development approaches in their work.

05.

Our vision is to open new frontiers of community development in practice, policy, ethics, social movement work, theory, and research.

Members of the Australian Participatory Community Development Institute pay deep respect to Elders, past and present of the unceded Countries in which we convene. We recognise sovereignty of all First Nation peoples.
